With one of the world’s most active volcanos, a fertile coastline, and millennia of winemaking history, Sicily is one of the most interesting places in the world to explore fermented grape juice—and especially, if you like it natural.

Parts I and II (and to-come, part IV) of my Sicily natural wine series featured narratives of my recent visits to winemakers across the island, based on a Pipette in Italia trip over May 2025. This was my second time visiting Sicily and the island has now fully captured my heart. The beauty of the Sicilian landscape, the refinement and flavors of its cuisines, the vibrant and eclectic culture across the island, are unparalleled in the world.

On this trip, I didn’t get to every single wine region of the island—hence, no profile of Arianna Occhipinti, certainly one of the most celebrated Sicilian natural winemakers. You can find her in Season 1 of Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy, anyway.

If you’re headed to Sicily, you cannot miss any of these spots. If you need further planning for your trip, don’t hesitate to reach out.
